The conversion concerns a R18 with Headlight Pro, which is installed in the housing of a Roctane headlight.
parts list
1 x headlight housing black 63127109355
The case is only available in black
1 x decorative ring black 63125A64B85 for the headlight
All other trim rings are smaller. Only this trim ring has the right size. There is no chrome trim ring
1 x spacer ring 63127914694
This spacer ring is necessary because the housing is larger in diameter and therefore the Headlight Pro fits exactly.
4xM4x20 07145A73CD9
These screws are used to tighten the spacer ring and the Headlight Pro.
1 x Headlight Holder Black 31427109197
The headlight holder of the R18 needs to be replaced because it is different to the Roctane.
1 x retaining plate 63128829590
The 2 nuts for the screws between the fork and the headlight holder are replaced with this plate, which has two nuts integrated.
1 x decorative ring black 62118829993 for the speedometer
The trim ring needs to be replaced because it is larger. There is no chrome trim ring
1 x holder instrument cluster 63127914695 for the speedometer
This holder is inside the headlight and holds the speedometer
1xM5x14,5 46638521653
This screw fixes the speedometer to the holder
Required tools
- Torx key
- wrench
The whole project (and others) were carried out by the BWM company Stilgenbauer (ask for Mr. Herbert) perfectly and with a lot of effort. Since this is not a standard conversion kit, a lot of know-how is required here. Therefore, if you are interested in this project (or others), I can only recommend contacting the Stilgenbauer company, which runs after-sales with real passion and has of course already built up the know-how specifically for this project.
---------
All other screws can be reused.
The first time it takes about 6 hours. The second time it takes about 3 hours.
Loosen the two Torx screws below the headlight.

I recommend covering the lower part of the machine with a cloth to prevent any parts from accidentally damaging the paint.

You have to wiggle it a bit to remove the headlight because two plugged-in sockets secure the position of the headlight.

Then use your fingernail to push the plug's locking slider a few millimeters towards the cable and the plug can be easily removed.

Then you can put the headlight down safely. In my case it had the Machined trim ring.

The 5 screws are loosened and the decorative ring can be removed. If you have a normal decorative ring, then loosen the screw at the bottom of the decorative ring, turn the decorative ring anti-clockwise until it stops, lift the decorative ring on the side of the holder and then remove it.

Loosen the screws on the holder and remove the holder.

Then loosen the 3 Torx screws that hold the headlight in the housing.

You can now remove the headlight from the housing.

Now you need the longer screws to attach the spacer ring to the new housing.

Pay attention to the TOP marking to ensure that the spacer ring is inserted correctly.

The ring is easy to insert by turning and sliding.

Just make sure the top is up and the teeth are facing forward.

Then put the new housing over the headlight, which you have placed on the ground facing the ground.

Use the 4 screws to screw the headlight onto the spacer ring and housing. The screws connect both due to their length.

The lamp ring is placed 30 to 40 degrees counterclockwise and then rotated until the screw hole is visible. Then insert the screw and tighten it.

Then the new holder is screwed onto the motorcycle. From today's perspective, I would first screw the holder onto the headlight and then onto the motorcycle, because it is easier to screw the holder with the headlight onto the motorcycle later than to screw the headlight onto the holder.
Now build the Tachometer off, as described in the instructions is described.

Now insert the plastic holder into the housing. Please note that some of the plastic elements are above and others below the metal edge. This is a result of the different heights of the plastic elements.

Look again at the instructions on how to remove the chrome ring from the speedometer. Be careful not to damage the glass or get it dirty on the inside. Now carefully place the ring on the speedometer and turn it slightly clockwise until it can be pushed deeper onto the speedometer. Then continue turning it firmly clockwise until the ring is firmly locked into place.

Then insert the speedometer correctly and screw it in. Screwing it in is easier if you insert and mount the headlight after the speedometer, but both ways are possible.
The plastic housing with the speedometer is not fixed with screws, so it is normal if it moves slightly.

The brake lines are fixed to the speedometer holder, which is no longer needed because it touches the housing of the new headlight.
Since there is no original solution from BMW, unless you replace the brake lines completely, I bought one from Amazon Flat connector made of stainless steel.

I had to drill the hole a little bit so that the original screws would fit.

Then I re-screwed the brake lines.

And with two washers instead of one, the original screws on the left were not too long. On the right, you need two extra nuts for fastening.

Now the flat connector with the integrated nuts is put on and tightened by hand ONLY with the upper screw.

Both plugs are plugged in again. A second person to hold it is helpful here. You should also cover the lower area and the area near the brake lines with a cloth to avoid scratches.

Then the headlight is inserted into the holder. The upper screw slides into the holder. The lower screw is only inserted and screwed in now. Alternatively, you can first mount the holder on the headlight and then mount the headlight with the holder on the motorcycle.
Then set as described here the headlights .
If you have any questions or further suggestions, I look forward to your feedback.

Hi
I'm thrilled and will also convert it for my R18!
Another question about the exhaust system: who is the supplier and how much does it cost? How does the sound compare to a J&H system (which I currently have installed)?

Hello and a big thank you for the very good instructions.
However, I have one question:
The two small bushings under the headlight holder are rusting! Is there a replacement or can they be left out?

Hello Sanyi,
mine were also oxidized.
You probably mean the 04 adapter sleeve (D=10,5 MM) with article number 11121726238

I would say you should definitely not go without it. The R18 vibrates like a stubborn horse and if you don't have it on, I suspect it will vibrate the holder away.
Great Didi, thank you. I'll order them right away. Great, thank you again!!!
